Pictures from the flood

Here are a couple of pictures from the night the basement flooded. We just want to thanks all the people who came out and helped. We also want to thank everyone who came on March 20, 21 and 22 and helped us tear up carpet and chip off tile. There is no way we could of done it without each person who showed up. We want to extend a special thank you to the WMU ladies who came and helped clean everything also! There will be some more pictures from clean up to come.

Look at the water come in through the walls!!!

So last night, the BSU basement flooded. Not as bad as it has been before, but that is thanks to some swift action on our campus minister, Billy Grady, and some very wet students. We want to thank everyone who came out to help us. We still have alot of work to be done so we can clean everything up and we have carpet to rip up and replace, but nothing serious was damaged thanks to the students who came and helped us take everything upstairs. I'll post some pictures as soon as we get them. Thank You!!

What it's like to be a freshman from one of our very own freshman.

This year I am a freshman at MSU. I am also a commuter. I live in Willard, so I don't live in the dorms or near campus at all. You'll have to talk to others if you really want to know about all that jazz.

So I have the greatest example of what it feels like to be a freshman in college.

Tonight I went to my cousin's fourth birthday party. She is a leap year baby, and today was her first birthday (technically). But her older brother, who is six and in kindergarten, had written a journal entry for his class that got him sent to the principal's office (it was quite a remarkable entry). As far as I can remember, this is what it said (first with, then without the spelling errors):

The sun is fir

The Sun is fire

Mrcre has no mons

Mercury has no moons

Venis has valcanos

Venus has volcanoes

Ert is are planet

Earth is our planet

Mars is dry

Mars is dry

Jupiter is likwi hydrgn

Jupiter is liquid hydrogen

Satrn has rigx

Saturn has rings

Uranis has rigx too

Uranus has rings too

Neptun is wde

Neptune is windy

Mrs. Bowers is col

Mrs. Bowers is cool

Now, the things that I noted about that little journal entry of a kindergartener are sort of ironic.

First, I notice that there is nothing about Pluto. This makes me sad. He complimented his teacher instead of talking about Pluto. DOES NOBODY ELSE MISS PLUTO???

Second, I want to point out what he said about Jupiter. He told what it was made of. The really sad part? I learned that in my Astronomy 114 class TODAY. He wrote this journal last week. HE'S SIX YEARS OLD!!!!

Basically… as a freshman, they are just teaching me stuff I should have learned in kindergarten!

Dorm Dining

On Tuesday, February 19 a few students in the Blair-Shannon dining hall stood up after eating dinner and was asked the question, "May I take your tray, please?" From looks varying from: surprised, confused, and cautious, many of them said, "Sure." And of those few, even fewer posed the question, "Why?" The answer is because, our Lord and Savior Jesus who is the Christ, called on us to show love to both God and our neighbor (even if that neighbor sleeps across the room from us). He went on to demonstrate that the best example of love is to serve others. On this Tuesday, February 19, three BSU members demonstrated love to their fellow students, by taking their plates, forks, and trash to the tray return area. This was done for about 20 minutes until obligations of homework & bible studies forced them to leave. However, before leaving, stopped to say a prayer over the students at the dining hall and expressed the hope that the 20 or so students whose trays were taken would be impacted in some way by this demonstration of love. The challenge is given to other Christian students, who eat on campus on Tuesdays between 5:30 - 6:30 PM, to join the three for a wonderful blessed time of food, service, and love.
